Agri Shop – E-commerce Application Using MERN Stack
ABSTRACT
Agri Shop is an innovative E-commerce application built using the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, and Node.js), designed to revolutionize the agricultural shopping experience for farmers and agri-enthusiasts. This platform bridges the gap between rural farmers and modern digital marketplaces by providing a user-friendly interface for browsing, selecting, and purchasing agricultural products such as seeds, fertilizers, tools, and equipment. The application offers two main modules – Admin and User. The Admin module facilitates product management, including creation, editing, and analytics monitoring. The User module allows customers to register, log in, explore product details, and securely make purchases. The use of React.js ensures a responsive and interactive user interface, while Node.js and Express.js manage backend operations and APIs. MongoDB serves as a flexible, scalable database to handle product and user data efficiently. Agri Shop not only promotes digital inclusion in rural areas but also enhances accessibility to high-quality agricultural products, boosting productivity and convenience. This project demonstrates how modern web technologies can transform traditional sectors by streamlining operations and enhancing user engagement through a secure, scalable, and intuitive online platform.

Existing System:
In traditional agricultural shopping scenarios, farmers and consumers usually depend on physical visits to local agro-shops to purchase seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and farming equipment. There is little to no use of digital platforms, especially in rural areas where internet use is limited. Some existing online solutions do exist, but they are either too complex, not agriculture-specific, or not suitable for small-scale users and students learning system design. These platforms typically lack features like admin-based product management or user-based purchase workflows tailored for agricultural use. For example, there is no basic module that allows an admin to create or manage product listings, nor are there simple user features such as account creation, secure login, or a streamlined purchase flow. Additionally, there are no learning-focused analytics features that could help understand basic user behavior. Overall, the current systems do not provide a simplified, educational platform that demonstrates how e-commerce can be applied to agriculture, especially from a student project perspective using technologies like the MERN stack.
Disadvantages of Existing System
- Lack of Digitization Awareness:
Most traditional systems do not encourage or support digital literacy among farmers, limiting their exposure to modern platforms. - No Admin Control or Management Features:
There is no role-based admin module to add, edit, or manage product listings, making inventory control difficult and manual. - No Structured User Interaction:
Existing systems often lack user account creation and login functionality, which are essential for personalized user experiences and order tracking. - Inaccessibility of Product Information:
Farmers have no way to view detailed product descriptions, pricing, or availability in a structured and organized manner. - No Online Purchase Option:
The absence of a digital purchase flow means users cannot select and buy products from the comfort of their homes. - No Analytics or Insights:
Traditional systems do not provide insights into sales trends or user behavior, which are important even in academic projects to simulate real-world data analysis. - Not Tailored for Learning Purposes:
Existing e-commerce models are too complex or commercialized, making them less suitable for students who want to learn full-stack development using the MERN stack in a simplified, agriculture-based context.
Proposed System:
The proposed system, Agri Shop, is a e-commerce web application built using the MERN Stack (MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, Node.js), specifically designed to simulate a digital agricultural shopping experience. The system consists of two main modules: Admin and User. The Admin module allows the admin to log in securely, add new products, manage existing product details, and view basic sales analytics for learning and testing purposes. The User module enables users to create accounts, log in, browse available agricultural products (such as seeds, tools, fertilizers), and make simulated purchases through a user-friendly interface. This system introduces basic features of an actual online store while remaining simple and suitable for academic learning. The platform aims to demonstrate how digital technologies can improve access to essential farming inputs and offer hands-on experience in building full-stack applications.
Advantages of the Proposed System
- Modular Design:
Separates Admin and User roles for clear functionality and learning of role-based access. - Improved Accessibility:
Allows users to browse and “purchase” products online, promoting the idea of digital agriculture. - User-Friendly Interface:
Built with React.js to ensure a responsive and interactive user experience. - Basic Analytics Dashboard:
Offers admin simple analytics for insights into user activity and product interaction. - Inventory Management:
Admin can easily add, update, or remove products, simulating real e-commerce operations. - Simulated Purchase Workflow:
Demonstrates a typical e-commerce checkout flow, useful for understanding order processes. - Data Storage and Retrieval:
Uses MongoDB to store product and user data securely and efficiently.
CONCLUSIONS
The Agri Shop – E-commerce Application Using MERN Stack offers a modern digital platform for the seamless buying and selling of agricultural products. By leveraging the power of the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, and Node.js), the system ensures scalability, efficiency, and a responsive user experience. The application simplifies the process for both administrators and users — allowing admins to manage product listings and view analytics, while users can easily register, browse, and purchase agricultural products. This system bridges the gap between traditional agricultural markets and modern e-commerce solutions, providing a centralized and user-friendly interface for improved access and transparency in agricultural product transactions. It demonstrates how digital transformation can enhance convenience, availability, and operational efficiency in the agriculture sector.
